2021 ARCHITECT/DESIGNER

Doug is the creative force behind the Doug Washington Design team, with over 30 years of design and operational experience in the hospitality industry. Doug has operated and/or partnered with some of the industry’s top names: Wolfgang Puck, Traci DesJardins, Pat Kuleto & Joyce Goldstein. Given his upbringing in a family surrounded by designers & aesthetes paired with his years of hands-on experience, it was only natural for him to design his own restaurants when he started a wildly successful restaurant group with two partners in San Francisco in 2003. However, the demands of a burgeoning design business led him to leave operations in the restaurant group to focus solely on the hotel, restaurant & retail design projects located throughout the Western United States, Mexico and Europe.

Doug’s experience gained through previously owning and/or operating helps him to understand the ideal intersection between form, function and finance. Washington believes that creating restaurants, hotels and gathering places with an overarching sense of spirit, soul and generosity is the most important aspect of what Doug Washington Design does. Doug lives in the Oakland hills of California with his wife, Freya, and their three children. When not at work, he can be found riding mountain bikes through the hills near their house or bouldering at the local climbing gym.
